Wavawo — Privacy Policy
Effective date: 20 June 2026 · Last updated: 20 June 2026
Wavawo ("Wavawo", "we", "us", or "our") is a family chore-and-rewards app that helps
parents and guardians set chores, and helps kids complete them and earn points. This policy explains
what information the app collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. Wavawo is built for
families and intended to be set up and controlled by a parent or guardian.
If you have any questions, contact us at support@wavawo.com.
1. Who controls the data
A parent or guardian creates the family account and creates an account for each child. The guardian
is in control of their family's data: they add children, approve the devices children sign in on, and
can edit or delete that information at any time.
2. Information we collect
We collect only what the app needs to work. We do not collect data for advertising
and we do not sell personal information.
From parents / guardians
- Email address and a password (stored only as a salted bcrypt hash, never in plain text)
- Family name and time zone
About children (entered and controlled by the guardian)
- A username, a display name, and an optional avatar selection
- A password for the child to sign in (stored only as a salted bcrypt hash)
Activity you create in the app
- Chores, assignments, completions, points, rewards and redemptions
- Optional text notes / "reports" a child adds when finishing a chore that requires proof
- Optional photo proof images, when a guardian configures a chore to require a photo. Images are stored in a private storage area; location metadata (EXIF/GPS) is stripped on the device before upload. Only the child who uploaded it and the guardian(s) of that family can view it.
- Optional journal entries a child writes (which can be marked private)
Device and technical information
- An app-generated device identifier, an optional device label, and the platform (iOS/Android), used so a guardian can approve or revoke the specific devices a child signs in on
- A "last seen" timestamp for approved devices
- App version / update information used to deliver app updates (via Expo Application Services)
We do not collect: precise or background location, contacts, phone numbers,
advertising identifiers, biometric data, or any data for behavioral advertising.
3. Camera and photos
The app requests camera access for two purposes, both initiated by the user:
- Scanning a family QR code to help a child's device join the right family.
- Taking/attaching a photo only when a guardian has set a chore to require photo proof.
Photos are uploaded to a private storage bucket, are never public, have location
metadata removed before upload, and are visible only to the child and the family's guardian(s)
(and a co-parent the guardian has explicitly invited).
4. How we use information
We use the information solely to provide the app:
- Create and secure accounts and sign-ins (guardian and per-device child sign-in)
- Run the core features: chores, proof, points, rewards, and journaling
- Let a guardian approve/deny the devices a child uses
- Let a guardian invite a co-parent to share access to a specific child
We do not use this information for advertising, profiling, or to build marketing
profiles, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
5. How information is shared
- Within your family: guardians can see their family's data; a guardian can invite a co-parent to share access to a specific child.
- Service providers: the app is delivered and updated through Expo Application Services (EAS), which may process limited technical data needed to deliver the app and updates. App data (accounts, chores, photos, etc.) is stored on our own backend server.
- We do not sell personal information and do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
- We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of users.
6. Data storage and security
- Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
- Passwords are stored only as salted bcrypt hashes.
- Child accounts use a per-device approval model — a child can only access data on a device a guardian has approved, and a guardian can revoke a device at any time.
- Photo proof is kept in a private, access-controlled storage area.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information using
reasonable safeguards.
7. Data retention and deletion
We keep information for as long as the account is active. Guardians can:
- Edit or delete a child's information, deactivate a child, or revoke a device at any time in the app.
- Request deletion of the entire family account and all associated data via our account deletion page or by emailing support@wavawo.com. We will delete the data within 30 days of verifying your request.
8. Children's privacy (COPPA and similar laws)
Wavawo is designed for families and is meant to be set up and managed by a parent or guardian.
Accounts for children are created and controlled by a parent or guardian, who provides
consent and can review, edit, or delete their child's information at any time. We collect only the
limited information described above, use it only to provide the app, and do not
condition a child's participation on disclosing more than is reasonably necessary. We do not knowingly
allow children to make their information public, and we do not show third-party advertising or use
third-party tracking in the app. If you believe a child has provided information without a guardian's
involvement, contact us at support@wavawo.com and we will remove it.
9. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information.
A guardian can exercise most of these directly in the app, or by contacting us at
support@wavawo.com.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for
material changes, provide a more prominent notice.
